Ive evolved from being nice to being kind. There is a time and place for both behavioral responses. In the corporate world “being nice” can be “tactful” when telling the chatty person who visits your cube for idle conversations, that you’d love to listen to her stories over lunch or after work as “I’m working on a project that needs to be done now, before my boss gets into the office”
We as women are hardwired to being nice and polite and that often gets translated into being a floor-mat or sucker for taking on a project no one else wants. I think it is important to have goals for each day and to practice saying No nicely. An act of kindness is a form of generosity with our time, resources, words, an offer and there is a time and place for it.
